a supportive community
Through their involvement in the school, parents and care-givers get to know one another and form strong, lasting friendships. There are many school-organized community events which allow families to get to know one another, including potluck dinners, summer playdates, adult-only cocktail parties, and our annual Winter Concert & Festival — our main fundraiser, which brings our community together during the planning process and also on the day of the concert.
Our board of directors often helps organize support for families who may be in need, whether it is meals for a family with a new baby or transportation and playdates for children during times of stress or illness in their family. Informally, many of our families have also found ways to help each other; for example, by watching younger siblings when a parent is scheduled for a parent help day.
We believe that our strong community and the support it provides to families enriches the school experience for both the children and the adults at Burr Cooperative.
